Bloomsburg Downs Mansfield in Women's Basketball

BLOOMSBURG -The Bloomsburg University women's basketball team defeated Mansfield 72-59 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action on Wednesday night.

With the score tied at 10-10 with 13:35 left in the first half, Bloomsburg went on an 18-7 run over the next five minutes. The surge was capped off by a Stephanie Rankin (Bloomsburg/Bloomsburg) three-pointer at the 8:45 mark that made the score 28-17 in favor of Bloomsburg. From there, Bloomsburg would increase their lead to 15 at the 3:30 mark when Lauren Healy (Glenmoore/Owen J. Roberts) knocked down a free throw to make the score 35-20. Mansfield's Clarissa Correll nailed a buzzer-beating three-pointer to cut the lead to 37-26 after one half of play.

In the second half, Mansfield opened with a three-pointer, but Bloomsburg would counter over the next four minutes, going on a 12-3 run that ended with Giselle Laura (Toronto, Canada/Jamestown CC) hitting two free throws to extend the lead to 49-32 with 14:34 remaining. After Mansfield hit a quick three, Colleen Kegerreis (Schuylkill Haven/Schuylkill Haven) hit a jumper, and Kelly Joyce (Ashland/Cardinal Brennan) hit a three on the Huskies next possession to give Bloomsburg their biggest lead of the night, 54-35 with 11:37 remaining. Mansfield cut the deficit down to 10 at the 3:02 mark, but Bloomsburg put the game away over the final three minutes at the foul line.

Bloomsburg was led by Healey, who scored 16 points and four assists. Joyce had 15 points, while Kegerreis chipped in 14 points and eight boards. Rankin added 10 points, four rebounds and three assists, while Monica Dennison (Zion Grove/Hazleton Area) pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.

With the win, Bloomsburg improves to 7-14 overall, 2-4 in the PSAC East, while Mansfield drops to 6-15, 1-5 in the PSAC East.

Bloomsburg will return to action when they host Cheyney at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
